Adjusting Camera Photos for the Web
by Karl Ivers

This page will give you information concerning adjusting photos
taken with a digital camera for use on a web page. This sample was
shot with an Apple Quicktake 150 and adjusted with Photoflash 2.0.1.
- Here is the raw photograph taken with the Quicktake camera.
- Number 4 has been cropped and resized to 80 percent of the
original
- Using the special option with Photoflash, it has been adjusted
for fluorescent lighting (Enhance/Quicktake menu) This takes much
of the yellow out of the photo.
- Brightness and contrast are now adjusted. This is a closeup
picture and the flash was quite strong. The brightness was set at
-27 (minus) and the contrast at+17 (plus)
- Next the photo is sharpened at a setting of +2.
- Next, some background items such as pictures have been
eliminated by copying the background next to the picture and
pasting it over the picture. Small areas are copied and then
pasted many times. Hold the option key and drag a selected area
over another area to copy and paste in one step. With more time,
the calendar, red bag against the wall and coffee cup should
probably have been eliminated.
- In this final version, the computer, calendar and papers in
the foreground have been darkened to focus attention on the
subject. You do this by carefully surrounding the items one at a
time with the lasso tool and then making the brightness level a
negative number.
