MHS presents ... the Class of 2008

By Staff reports
The McPherson Sentinel
Mon May 19, 2008, 12:00 PM CDT

The McPherson High School Class of 2008 commencement ceremony was held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Roundhouse.

U.S. Senator Pat Roberts delivered the inspirational message to the 199 graduating students.

Kelsey Heft, the 2007 valedictorian from Greensburg High School, was the featured speaker chosen by the class. Heft spoke of her experiences at her graduation following the F5 tornado that leveled her town last May.

Valedictorian Jessica McNally encouraged her classmates to pursue their dreams, whether it be a fry cook or a doctor.

Class President Greg Loving rehashed memories of his time at MHS, recalling a notorious streaker during a pep assembly his freshman year.

“We’ve learned when to use a semi-colon as opposed to the whole colon and how to properly take care of our colon,” Loving said.

Details, Details, Details!

Senior students in Mrs. Valerie Stout’s College Bound English and Advanced Placement English Literature classes recently completed a project that helped them explore the presentation of details in art and the writing of poetry from a different point of view.  Students were assigned to select a popular work of art and then to replicate the picture by inserting themselves as the main character with as much attention to detail as possible.  In addition students then wrote a poem from the point of view of the individual in the painting.  Click on the link here to view some of the finished products.  Can you tell which picture is of the student and which is the original work of art??
