ANNOUNCEMENT
The McPherson High Activities Department will host its annual ALL SPORT PARENT MEETING at 6:30 pm in the MHS Theater on Thursday, August 12th.  At the meeting important information will be shared with parents and athletes, regarding eligibility, rules, and procedures for ANY MHS STUDENT PLANNING ON PARTICIPATING IN A SPORT DURING THE 2010-11 SCHOOL YEAR.  This meeting is not just for fall athletes, but anyone planning on participating during anyone of the three seasons.  Activities DIrector Shane Backhus will present the information and answer questions, and representatives from the MHS Booster Club will also be on hand.

Following the meeting, coaches of the fall sports will hold their pre-season parent meetings going over the details and requirements of the upcoming season.  Boy's soccer will meet in the Little Theater, cross country in room 34, girl's tennis in the library, and volleyball in room 309.  The football parent meeting will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday, August 14th in the theater.  All fall practices begin on August 16th.

There are also a few changes in the high school league this year with the re-alignment of divisions.  McPherson belongs to the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League, Division II.  Members of our division this year will be Andover, Andover Central, Arkansas City, Goddard, McPherson and Valley Center.  Next year (11-12) Goddard-Eisenhower HS will also join our division.  Leaving division II this year is Campus and Newton (moved up to D I), and  Winfield (dropped down to D III).

The second major change in the league will be a increase in ticket prices.  The AVCTL voted in the spring on the following rates:  Varsity contests adults $6, K-12 $5, sub-varsity contests adults $4, K-12 $3.  This reflects a $1 increase at all levels from recent years.

The McPherson Sentinel
May 4, 2010, 10:53 AM CST

McPherson, Kan. — Doug Gayer knew with his normal lineup that McPherson High’s tennis team would probably finish second behind Winfield in Monday’s AVCTL Division II Championships. So Gayer gambled, though he admitted it was really no gamble at all. “We had nothing to lose,” Gayer said after his revamped lineup worked like a charm to give the Bullpups their 11th league title since 1989. “Winfield was going to win. They’re just too deep.” read more
