Hutch honors local cagers
McPherson Sentinel
April 4, 2005

McPherson High and area basketball players were bestowed with a littany of honors Sunday by The Hutchinson News.
Most decorated was the undefeated and Class 5A state champion McPherson High girls.
Marlies Gipson was named The News' Class 6-5A Player of the Year, while Scott Schaefer was overall and 6-5A Coach of the Year. Gipson and Ashley Sweat both were picked to the first-team Top 15.
Gipson, Sweat and Brette Ulsaker all were named to the 6-5A first team, while other MHS starters Jamie Sims and Kendra Schaefer were honorable mention.
Among the other high honors, MHS' Jamie Crist was named to the All-Area All-Class second team and was first-team 6-5A. Little River's Kylee McGill was named the Class 1A Player of the Year and headlined 1A's first team. Inman's Gavin Schmidt was third-team Top 15 and was on the 2A first team.

Elyria Christian (Class 1A) -- Megan Patrick, honorable mention 1A; Natalie Anderson, honorable mention 1A.
Inman (Class 2A) -- Gavin Schmidt, second-team Top 15; first-team 2A; Jarell Schroeder, honorable mention 2A; Ami Froese, honorable mention 2A; Renee Swisher, honorable mention 2A.
Little River (Class 1A) -- Kylee McGill, 1A Player of the Year, second-team Top 15, first-team 1A; Mac Stephenson, second-team 1A.
Moundridge (Class 2A) -- Ky Krehbiel, honorable mention 2A; Kyle Neufeld, honorable mention 2A; Lucas Stucky, honorable mention 2A; Cassondra Huxman, honorable mention 2A; Haley Schrag, honorable mention 2A; Bethany Thiesen, honorable mention 2A.
Smoky Valley (Class 4A) -- Justin Holcom, second-team 4A; Matt Hodges, honorable mention 4A; Shannon Christians, honorable mention 4A; Kyle Hubele, honorable mention 4A; Jade Pihl, first-team 4A; Britta Tjaden, honorable mention 4A.
