New television channel will offer information about school events, releases
Cox Communications has started offering McPherson a new educational channel on Cox Cable Channel 20. The local channel initially will be used to give the general public basic information about school events and public information. In the future, the channel may be used to broadcast programs and school activities.
Unified School District 418 will provide the non-commercial programming on the channel. Superintendent Dr. Robert Shannon is very excited about this new channel.
"We think this is just one more step in improving external communications with the public," he said.
Cox Communications provides cable and high-speed Internet services to about 100 communities across Kansas. As a major supporter of education in Kansas, Cox Communications offers Project Kids, a program that provides free Internet access to K-12 schools and public libraries in Cox communities. In addition, the company offers Cable in the Classroom, an educational program in partnership with the National Cable Television Association.
Cox Communications Inc., a Fortune 500 company, is a multi-service broadband communications company with approximately 6.6 million total customers, including approximately 6.3 million basic cable subscribers. The nation's third-largest cable television provider, Cox offers both analog cable television and advanced digital video service.
