Your MHS Marching Band competed at the Central States Marching Festival at Kansas State University on Saturday, October 15th against a strong field of 33 bands from across the State. Against this stiff competition, your MHS Band received the highest rating possible-a "1" (superior).
To put this accomplishment in perspective, area perennial "superpowers" Hutchinson and Salina South received division "2" ratings. I certainly do not intend to pump us up at the expense of other schools (especially one that is my alma mater). But it sure is nice to "stand taller" than a couple of "giants" in the Band world, even if just for a few moments.
But even with that significant achievement, the highlight of my day was an hour long clinic with the K.S.U. Band staff. It was a phenomenally educational and musical experience for our students.
Saturday was simply a magnificent day to reward our Band students for months of very hard work. I'm looking forward to our final Marching Band performance of the season at the High Plains Marching Festival on the 24th.
