Soccer game set Saturday

McPherson High's soccer team has yet to play a game this fall.

But before the season starts, the Bullpups will be facing their biggest challenge.

The 2005 Bullpups will be taking on a group of alumni Saturday night at McPherson Stadium. Warmup starts at 7:30 p.m., with the game to start at 8:00.

MHS coach Jim Post said much of the alumni team includes the players who were on the recent gold-medal team from the Sunflower State Games, as well as players who helped contribute to Class 5A titles in 2001 and 2003.

There will be no admission charged, but a free-will donation will be accepted. All fans are invited to attend, as it definitely will be a blast from the past.

KOEHN UPDATE -- Former Moundridge and Kansas State basketball star Laurie Koehn is averaging 3.7 points for the WNBA's Washington Mystics.

Koehn, a rookie, played a lot during the early part of the season, but her minutes have gone down. She still gets in for 7.3 minutes a game.

Koehn is shooting 44 percent from both 2-point and 3-point range. All but four of her attempts have been from beyond the arc.

Koehn's season high is 15 points against Los Angeles.

MOFFITT AT DELMARVA -- Former McPherson High and Wichita State baseball standout Drew Moffitt is at Delmarva, a Class A affiliate.

According to statistics through Sunday, Moffitt -- an outfielder in the Baltimore Orioles organization -- is hitting .228 in 18 games, with 2 homers and 8 RBI. He also has 3 steals.

Moffitt has been slowed by injuries since joining the Baltimore organization, ailments that date back to his Wichita State days.

RUSH DOWN TO TWO -- Remember when we thought prep basketball phenom Brandon Rush would probably pick Illinois over Indiana and KU?

Well, according to published reports today, Rush has eliminated Illinois from his list.

And from the report we read, KU could be the frontrunner. He reiterated that he "wants to stay close to home," which to us means the Jayhawks would be his choice since Indiana is more than a hop, skip and jump from his Kansas City home.

Rush, however, hasn't been cleared academically by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
