The McPherson High School Drama Department will perform “The Magic Flute” by Steven Fogell at the McPherson High School Theater, 801 E. First, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission will be charged. Passes and activity tickets are accepted.

While there is no singing in this version, Mozart's music is featured as the MHS orchestra, conductor Tiffany Hayes and featured flutist Julia Snell share underscoring in the play's dialogue.

Watch Prince Tamino (Austin Curtright), in this comical tale as he journeys to the castle of the evil sorcerer Sarastro (Chris Crawford) to save Princess Pamina (Stephanie LeBlanc). While he's on this magical adventure, Tamino meets a wild set of characters, including Papagano the Birdman (Robb Krehbiel), three muses (Jenny Unruh, Sasha Harden and Amber Kiekel), a Greenbird (Lindsey Roesti), three spirits (Toni Jantz, Kelly Roane and Kenyatta Harden) and the fabled Queen of the Night (Marsha Sterneker). Armed with a magic flute given to him by the Queen, Tamino is ready to take on more to free his love.

Watch these friends complete their enhanced journey with fast-paced dialogue and hysterical characters in the play version of Mozart's opera by the same title.

The cast also features Jordan Crawford, David Mills, Lyle Smith, Jackson Curtright, Chelsea Smith, Chelsea Patton, Skye Johnson, Derek Skinner, Mikael Andrewson, Jackie Moore, Steele Pavlovsky, Seth Cox, Kaitlin Kiekel, Sarah Nealeigh, Erin Schooler, Courtney Kresky, Mallory Thompson and Sarah Showergert.

The stage manager is Jenni McConnell. The sound director is Eric Goering with Jordan Bandy and Mikael Andrewson on lights. The prop managers are Andrew Nobert and John Reeves.

Much of the production was designed by MHS students. Designs were created by Mikael Andrewson, Austin Curtright, Toni Jantz, Skye Johnson, Stephanie LeBlanc, Marsha Sterneker, Grace Chin and Jenny Unruh under the leadership of design supervisor and technical director Rachel Prochaska. Students from drama classes are responsible for the set construction.
