McPherson, Kan. -

Amber Anderson, daughter of Scott and Cheryl Anderson; Margaret Davidson, daughter of Tim and Ellen Davidson; Hanna Heidebrecht, daughter of Jamie and Debbie Heidebrecht; and Claire Krizek, daughter of Brian and Kim Krizek and Tom and Cindy Goldsmith, all of McPherson, were chosed by American Legion Auxiliary #24 to attend the 66th annual session of Sunflower Girls State on the Univerity of Kansas Lawrence campus. Sunflower Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, June 1-6, 2008.

Joining the 465 other young women who have just completed their junior year of high school, the McPherson youth “learned by doing” the political system involved in the government of Kansas.

The girls stayed in Ellsworth Hall and inauguration was held at the Lied Performing Arts Center. Camilla Han-He, Overland Park, was elected this year’s governor.

During the week, speakers on government such as Governor Kathleen Sebilius Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh and other state, county and city officials addressed the attendees.

All girls will be seniors at McPherson High School next year.
