Manifest Destiny

I am America’s oldest enemy.

Before fighting the Red Coats,

They gave us smallpox infected blankets.

Before chasing Pancho Villa and the Mexican Rebels

They slaughtered our men with their repeating rifles and black power.

Before fighting amongst themselves over liberty and pride,

They took away our freedom and our rights.

Before fighting the Spanish for land all over the globe,

They took our territory and pushed us further westward, and eastward, and southward, and northward.

Before rescuing millions around the globe from tyranny and oppression,

They rescued us from our barbarian lifestyles.

What did my people do?

Do Locke’s ideals that they hold with such esteem not apply to us?

Is the Bill of Rights something to be applied selectively?

I can only hope that one day my children will once again live like my ancestors,

And I hope that one day, my white brothers sins will Manifest themselves and we will be at peace.
