Melissa Strathman Chosen as New Special Education Co-op Director

McPherson — Melissa Strathman has been appointed the new director of Special Education

at McPherson County Special Education Cooperative.


Her appointment is effective July 1.


“Mrs. Strathman is a highly regarded, strong leader with demonstrated special education

expertise," District Superintendent Mark Crawford said in a press release."We look forward to
 
having her lead our Special Education staff, direct its programs and

collaborate with our four area school districts. 


"We are indeed fortunate to have an educator and administrator of her caliber joining us.”


PROVEN EXPERIENCE


Strathman, the McCSEC assistant director for the 2015-16 school year, has also served as

Program Improvement Coordinator for eight years and a Speech-Language Pathologist for

seven years at Roosevelt Elementary at USD 418. "Melissa brings a diverse educational and

leadership background to McCSEC, including experience as a service provider, administrator,

and parent," the release said.


She holds a master's degree from Eastern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree with

honors from Fort Hays State University (Communication Disorders and Sciences). 

 
INTERVIEWS and BOARD APPROVAL


All five McPherson County superintendents participated in the interviews, including incoming

Inman superintendent, Scott Friesen. The interviews were held on Monday, March 21. The

USD 418 Board of Education approved a two-year contract at the March 28th Board meeting.
