McPHERSON, Kan. — April 26, 2026 McPherson Public Schools has selected Dr. Cody Rierson as its next Superintendent. Dr. Rierson currently serves as Superintendent of Moundridge USD 423 and previously served as principal at Lincoln Elementary School in McPherson.
This announcement follows a Special Board Meeting to formally approve the hire. The Board gathered input from staff and community members through surveys and focus groups, then interviewed three strong candidates. Each candidate met with staff across the district, and community members were invited to attend meet-and-greet events.
Dr. Rierson is known for building a positive, collaborative environment and keeping students at the center of every decision. He grounds his leadership in what is best for kids.
“McPherson Public Schools are home to me, and I’m excited to get to work. I’m thankful for the opportunity to give back and work tirelessly on behalf of the students, staff, and community at USD 418,” Dr. Rierson said.
Dr. Rierson earned his district-level licensure from Wichita State University, where he also received his doctorate.
Board President Lara Vanderhoof said Dr. Rierson’s leadership comes at an important time for the district.

Dr. Rierson will begin the transition process immediately, with his official contract start date set for July 1.
