2 years ago the State Board of Education proposed that schools in Kansas could apply to be part of the redesign process so seven schools in Kansas were selected by the State Board of Education the reader redesign are schools based on a set of what they've called redesign principles we implemented a project-based learning we began to do more work on social-emotional we became what's known in the education world is cominform schools we've loved it individualized instruction we selected a online learning platform Summit learning to help us through that process the traditional classroom we would teach to the middle and son students would be able to far exceed where we're going and they're bored some students were challenged to an area where they struggled now we're with the use of some of the least in basic learning kids can learn at work they're ready if we expect to make significant progress in helping students be better prepared for Life After High School we need to look at doing things differently for students leave our school. His citizenship ready College read and career-ready we think it's so important that we begin the process of young people discovering what they're passionate about and nothing is greater than match your vocation with your passion today we're filming a sin base area and Eisenhower Elementary we have some kids that are watching us in the purpose of this is for them to see an opportunity how professionals do video do media things a lot of her project-based learning work is taking what is learned in school and applying it in real life real world situations new initiatives often throws curves there sometimes bumps in the road we made adjustments throughout the year on the way especially the way we use Summit learning we continue to grow until you to change I just last week Harbor are bored or earlier this week in fact our board approved a plan that will allow parents both Eisenhower and at our Middle School to opt out of summit learning we want honor those parents that are hesitant about the use of summit and so will be putting those things in place in the next few weeks when my wife and I decided our final move in my career we said it's more important where we live than what we do and we have that tradition here of outstanding in schools outstanding young people and we want to play a part of that picture partner with with our schools and with our community please feel free to call me call one of our principals in a redesign schools that's Chris Allen at Eisenhower or Brandon simmelink at the middle school they'd be happy to have a conversation with you on the school redesign piece the best source of that would be this Kansas State Department of education's website that's ksde.org you can go on there and find up a lot of information about this redesign initiative that's going on there
